Charlie Holiday just exists. “I’m beyond any genre,” he says.

Yeah, he’s the character. I’m the one who’s selling the books.

Why do I need to know? So I can tell readers what they can expect.

There are two (maybe more) distinct writer camps:

  1. I write what I want and am passionate about (the artist).
  2. I write what the market wants me to write (the marketer).

Is there a hybrid, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde author who can do both? Sure. But each side has to acknowledge the other. If the “artist” doesn’t really care about selling any books, it doesn’t really matter. If the “marketer” doesn’t care about anything other than selling books, it doesn’t really matter either.

It’s when our dear author friend wants to combine #1 and #2 that things get interesting. That’s where I am. I’m trying to label the “I don’t want to be labeled” Charlie Holiday, the hero of my upcoming fiction books.

Let’s have a  look at a few genres that I, he, well, we should look into:

  1. Paranormal
  2. Psychic
  3. Fantasy
  4. Science Fiction
  5. Paranormal Suspense
  6. Psychic Suspense

Seriously, I don’t know what half of them mean. But I need to. Which is one of my tasks while working on my new books.
