What do you get when you mix a witty writer with an ingenious illustrator?

What do you get when you mix a witty writer with an ingenious illustrator?

We’re joining forces to write the next break-out illustrated children’s book of 2016.

I can’t stop writing books with my boys and Marty can’t stop illustrating. We’re like two over-charged currents who need an outlet.

I partly write this as one purpose these 1,000+ posts has served is as a “spot in time.” A time where an event happens and I’m recoding it on the spot, on the day, without any knowledge of how it’s going to turn out. But it’s going to be one of those, “Yeah, I remember when we first met up at the Ferry Building.” Stay tuned.

Children's Illustrated Books

There’s the road. There’s up ahead. What’s up there? Dunno.

We studied the market, we looked into legal contracts, we bounced around a few creative ideas and thought big thoughts–and a few tiny ones, too.

Who knows what this will bring. Will we pull of the next Big Nate success? Or will it be just “a few beers and wings” with an illustrated children’s book languishing on the digital shelves while millions of kids around the world feel in their hearts that they’re missing out on something. They know it exists, they just can’t place the longing.

In a way, we can’t lose because we already:

  1. Had so many laughs today it was already worth it.
  2. Thought up some really bad possible book ideas … that were just way too much fun.
  3. Concocted hare brained marketing plans that at least would give people another good laugh.
  4. Worked out some strategies to bring the boys into the creative headquarters and get some good content out of them for the price of gum balls and pizza.

We already won. It’s a victory and we haven’t even started. It might sound like I’m optimistic, but the truth of the matter is that I’m just having way too much fun. It’s probably illegal. Laughing can’t be illegal, right?

We’re going to cook up some comics, bring kids and parents to their knees falling over themselves to reach that digital shelf to get the next installment of the new comic-injected adventures of Li & Lu. Imagine, Li & Lu with cartoon sketches. It’s a whole new world out there.

This is going to be fun.
