You can give up or get creative. (Or: How to write when offline on a Google Chromebook.)
I’m a writer. I need to write. It’s like breathing. I only have a Chromebook.
We’re traveling. We left the beaten path days ago. There’s no WiFi in Borneo.
Yes, I could use pen and paper (and do). But my hands cramp up and I can’t write as fast as I can think–like I can when typing.
I suppose I could just chalk it up to traveling in the jungles of Borneo and say I just couldn’t get it done. That would work if it were something I was trying to do that maybe I didn’t really want to do (e.g. go on a diet, work out, read about where we’re going next). But it’s writing. I need it. I miss it. I don’t feel right if words aren’t flying in front of my eyes and my fingers aren’t dazzling my keyboard.

I no longer really believe in excuses. You don’t have excuses for not doing something you truly want to do.
I couldn’t figure out to work on documents offline on this Google Chromebook I’m on. I’m not even really sure if this thing has a hard drive. I just need an offline writing tool of some sort. I can barely get online. I first thought of:Google Docs offline: I think this is possible, but I can’t seem to enable it and I’m not even sure I have a hard drive to sync to.
Evernote: this would be great. Maybe there’s a Google Chrome app?
WordPress offline: I think there are ways to do this, but it’s probably too complicated and I don’t want to mess up syncing existing posts.
Google Keep: just found this app in the apps already installed on this computer. It seems to be like Apple Notes or a bit like Evernote.
Google Keep works. It’s what I’m writing in right now. Even writing about relatively boring stuff like how to work offline on a Chromebook is making words on a page, it’s pushing the functions of my brain that makes thoughts into words and now my fingers are happy as they dance over the keyboard and words appear in ways I don’t expect.
You can give up or get creative. It’s an easy decision when you have clarity.
