Using a Thunderclap Campaign to Promote a Book Launch

I can tweet, you can tweet, but what if we all tweeted at the same time? Does that make it stronger?

Yes.

Thunderclap for Book Launch

So goes the theory from Thunderclap. It works a bit like Kickstarter: you gather up supporters, hopefully gain some momentum and then, IF you make your quota, you succeed. In the case of Kickstarter, you get the money. In the case of Thunderclap, a barrage of Tweets, Facebook posts and Tumbler updates go out, but they they all go out at the same time. Like a bellowing, rumbling thunder. Get it? Kinda cool, right?

But does it work?

It seems to! They have some pretty impressive case studies. But numbers aside, there’s an element of challenge, even competition, and finally risk that make it all the more exciting.

Compare the two scenarios:

1.) I ask you (and others) to help promote my book launch. I post on Facebook, share with my email list, Tweet, etc. You share, like, retweet, maybe like and favorite and all that. It’s a drizzle of social media.

2.) I ask you (and others) to join my Thunderclap campaign and, if you agree, we’re all agreeing to posting from our separate accounts on the specified day and time. The beauty of it, however, is that Thunderclap is actually going to post from your account (and my account and everyone else’s accounts) at the exact same time. So at 9:30 AM on Friday, December 18, there’s going to be a perfect storm of social media going on about the launch of “The Key to Markree Castle.”

What sounds like more fun to you? For me, #2 is just plain funner.

Today, Dec. 9, 2015, is Day 1 of the Thunderclap campaign. They recommend 2 to 3 weeks to let it run out, I have 8 days. We’ll see what happens. I’ll keep you posted here.

Oh, if you’d like to join the Thunderclap campaign, you are more than welcome: Thunderclap Campaign for The Key to Markree Castle.

In related marketing and promotion news, I’m also doing a Gleam campaign to help build the Thunderclap, which I’ll talk about soon.
