Why I’m NOT Moving to Substack from WordPress
I have decided to stick with WordPress and not move my blog to Substack. Here’s why.
tl;dr — It’s the long game.
My history with WordPress goes back to the old days of the Swedish Hall on market Street in San Francisco where Matt Mullenweg did one of the first word camps (although it wasn’t called that then).
If you’re skimming this post looking for tables and charts of comparisons of the pros and cons of WordPress versus Substack, let me disappoint you quickly and painlessly: there will be none of that here.
In a nutshell, I am a long game writer. I’ve been writing forever and I will continue to write forever.
Fads come and go, new tools, and new software always will be arriving — and departing — the scene.
They say the best software is the one you know how to use. The best camera is the one you have on hand. I mean, the best writing tool is the one that you’re used to, it’s the one where you feel at home, at ease, and creative.
Who knows, maybe WordPress will fold tomorrow and Substack will take over the world. That’s OK, I’d be OK with that. I’m not wedded to any software any of it maybe from writing or inspire me to write. The software is a tool, just like a screwdriver. The best one to use is when you have a new toolbox.
That’s it. That’s my story. If you have 14 reasons why Substack is better, awesome, go for it. For me, I’m keeping this ship afloat by paddling downstream on the river I know.
