Why your Book Sales Page should have an FAQ (even if you don’t have any Q’s at all!).
Don’t quite have Frequently Asked Questions about your book? It’s time to get creative.
In addition to my philosophy that you should create your Book Sales Page before you write your book, I also believe that you should create Frequently Asked Questions even if you don’t have any questions asked (ever).
What might a reader ask? How might you phrase a question (that you then answer) that might intrigue the reader who doesn’t know you, your book or even the topic? Try this on for size:
Q: In The Secret of Kite Hill, how did you possibly lose your own son down a cave in the middle of the city? What kind of parent are you anyway?
A: It was a slippery slope. P.S. It’s frequently admitted that the father is nowhere near a parenting guidance consultant.
No one ever asked me this question much less was it “Frequently Asked.” But if I suggest it as a question, maybe someone would be intrigued to learn more about how this father let his son slip down a cave in the middle of the city (apparently, it was slippery–or so he says).
Or maybe take a non-fiction book where there are some aspects of the book that maybe you, as the author, aren’t sure get across. You can address them in your (fake) FAQ page for the book:
Q: In Chapter 3 of your book, you talk about how you turned your part-time blogging gig into a 6-figure dream job. How did you do it?
A: That’s in Chapter 7 of the book.
See how it can also be used as yet another place where you can add wit, humor or a teaser? Maybe sprinkle these lightly through the real FAQs, but use them wisely.
Later on, when you get some real question from readers who are not you, you can sprinkle those into the other questions and you’ll soon have a hot database of activity that your fans might just love.
- Possible: ask
- Impossible: answer
- Repossible: answer before you are asked
