“The best form of creativity is a deadline.” Read Minds and Amaze People with the Mentalist Oz Pearlman and Lewis Howes
“If I am too nervous and I don’t believe it, then it won’t happen.”
Here’s an interview that’s supposed to be about mentalists and mind reading, but it gets into psychology and business and guts and determination and … it’s stuff you can take with you to succeed in life and business.
Oz Pearlman is a lot less showy and fun and funny than Lior Suchard, but the more you listen to him, the more you realize he’s a businessman, a smart guy, and a salesman. He even says he’s a salesman more than an entertainer.
Listen to how he:
- Gets his first gigs at restaurants,
- Learns how to read people and how he’s going to appease their challenges, work with it and makes them comfortable,
- Finally gets on America’s Got Talent,
- Talks about the 10-year overnight success,
- and more.
What I like so much is how he likes, no, loves doing what he does. He’s been doing it for a long time, he started out small, no, tiny. He’s been at it, he’s improved his craft, he’s not giving up, and you too can be inspired by his determination, his patience, and now, revel in his success.
One of the many quotable lines and the main reason I’m even writing about this guy, to begin with, is something I firmly believe in:
“The best form of creativity is a deadline.” — Oz Pearlman
“Pain is temporary, glory is forever.” — Oz Pearlman
“At that level, it’s all your mind.” — Oz Pearlman
“You need to know you’re going to finish.” — Oz Pearlman
“It was body bag or finish line.” — Oz Pearlman
“Things are going to suck, but they will get better.” — Oz Pearlman
“If it’s fun the whole time, something’s wrong with you.” — Oz Pearlman
“When you get to the finish, it all becomes worth it.” — Oz Pearlman
“Everything is comfortable, but I didn’t want comfort.” — Oz Pearlman
“Authenticity can’t be faked.” — Oz Pearlman
“If I am too nervous and I don’t believe it, then it won’t happen.” — Oz Pearlman
“It can’t always get worse. It will eventually get better.” — Oz Pearlman
“Greatness is something you thought you could never do.” — Oz Pearlman
Lewis Howes is a great interviewer because he asks what we want to ask. Perlman is so casual and has more tips about the business of it and how, in fact, to “do business” through his talents–and how you can learn from it yourself.
