Expert Enough: Even if you know just a little more, you can help.

Expert Enough: Even if you know just a little more, you can help.

How much more do you need to know to help someone else?

Just a little more than they do.

What’s that joke? How fast do you need to run to outrun the bear? Faster than your friend. — Bad Jokes

At a gathering last night of, well, mostly strangers, someone mentioned meditation. For some reason, I jumped on the topic with her and we went deep into it.

I didn’t hold back and gave her everything I had. She asked how long I had been meditating and I didn’t really know. I said “Maybe 2 or 3 years.” but now that I think of it, it’s probably more like 3 or 4.

But whatever the amount, it was more than she had because she had just started within the past weeks or months.

In her eyes, I was an expert, I was experienced, I had knowledge that she didn’t have.

I could help her.

I don’t think of myself as an experience, or terribly experienced, in the realm of meditation. But compared to her, I am.

It’s all relative, isn’t it?

I could help her. I did help her. She was grateful.

It’s as simple as that.
