Goodreads Giveaways: if you’re going to do it, you might as well do it right.
Yes, I just spent the time to copy and paste addresses and write a personal note to each winner.
You know in interviews with successful people and they are asked where they paid attention to detail with even the small stuff? Yeah, this is an example of that.
First of all, I didn’t have to do a Goodreads Giveaway at all. I didn’t know much about it and didn’t even know how it worked–or how it would benefit me. But it’s worth a shot.
Then when I did my first one I realized that I was completely responsible for shipping. But think about it, I can personalize a little (gift) note to someone and they’re going to get my book in a package at their door and then in their hands. Isn’t this what we writers dream about?
So did it take some more effort and I just copied and pasted names and addresses into my Amazon address database and figured out how to split a shipment of the same product to different people? Yup.
Did I do it? Yup.
Would I do it again? Yup.
Am I immediately a bestseller? Nope.
But am I that much closer? Yup.
I can even get a notification that it arrived safe and sound.
Will this all help to get your book into the hands of readers?
I think it’s safe to say that not doing it will certainly get your book into fewer hands.
