A Complete Course in Mind-Body Healing

These three ingredients came from a book about hypnosis (Hypnosis House Call). As I read them, I found them universally applicable.

Motivation

This is the “want” the “desire” of something, an outcome. As simple as wanting your headache to go away, wanting to make the next level in the high jump. How much do you want it? How heightened is the emotion of the success of it happening? Is that emotion (or motivation) greater than the lower frequency emotion of not succeeding? In other words, will your joy be greater when you succeed than the sadness when it doesn’t? It has to be greater.

Belief

You must believe that it’s possible to happen. Can you make your headache go away? If you don’t believe it’s possible, it’s probably not going to happen. Think of the olympian: if they don’t believe they’re going to get over the bar in the high jump, how confident are they that they’ll succeed? If they do believe that it can happen, or better yet, that it will happen, then their belief is there, secure and strong.

Expectation

You must then expect the change to occur. You’re motivated, you want it, you believe that it’s possible, you

Here’s an excerpt from the book that I thought brought across the point clearly.

Imagine that you wanted to get rid of a wart on your hand. Your motivation is to have clear skin in that sport, so, first of all, the all-important motivation is there. Secondly, you create the belief that your skin is clear by imagining that it is already happening. You can use you mind’s eye to “see” under your skin and imagine the wart’s blood supply being cut off; then, just as you expect, it can no longer grow, and eventually it simply disappears, leaving clear, healthy skin.

  • Possible: wish for change
  • Impossible: change without will
  • Repossible: want, believe, and expect change

Will the sky become ocean? Probably not. But can I expect my wart to disappear?
