700 Posts in 700 Days

Maybe it takes several hundred posts to finally start writing what you want to write.

These last 100 have been a blur. As I take a quick scroll through the list, I notice that I’ve spent a lot of time with my kids. Summer vacation and we’re on the road a lot. Summer camps here and there, lots of family visits and I try to mix up kids and travel tips (Kids Travel Free and First Class is 5 Euros? What gives?). I see that some posts took quite some preparation, but that hard work might not shine through (I don’t know): This is focus. Squirrel! I had a vision and I followed through to make it happen, I stuck with it even if the end product might not have been exactly what I had originally envisioned. Others took a strong thought and not many words, but they didn’t need so many words (My Guru is Me).

Money, career, prestige are all secondary if you’re feeding your soul what it wants.

I know I need a section called something like “Things I Can’t Live Without.I don’t know why I have such a fascination promoting the products and services I know and love (Best Tweezers for Splinter Removal). I also realize I love intertwining math and philosophy, in fact, it might be one of my favorite things to do (A Chance of Rain is Still a Chance). I have some obvious “proud moments” where I get to boast about my kids (Pee! A Little Book About Taking a Leak and insight into their minds: What does an 8-year old see that we can’t?) but even more important is that I get to freeze the moment in time, seize the day, write it out like it’s history–because it is in their worlds. Moments and days that otherwise would be forgotten. I also remember them better by writing them, funny how that works.

What’s in store towards 800?

In the next 100, I have pretty much only one goal: publish outside of my own sites. Guest posting, publishing in other outlets, maybe even getting paid (getting what?). I know, it’s a crazy thought. Part of that goal is to spend more time on a certain piece. There were a few end-of-the-day-gotta-get-something-out posts that won’t exactly be competing for any literary awards, but that’s OK, there needs to be some mediocre stuff so the good stuff can rise above. I also want to just plan have more for sale in the coming months: WordPress child themes for WOO Canvas at WPU, services at Likoma, maybe get that home exchange 101 booklet published here on Repossible.

Speaking of Repossible, I just noticed that I haven’t posted here in 100 posts. Huh, interesting. I haven’t missed it, maybe it’s just the way it was meant to be. But I’m doing some reinvention of late, so maybe the repossible philosophy can come back to life. We’ll see.

What about 1,000?

We’re closer to 1,000 than we are to zero. Quite a bit closer. It doesn’t phase me about getting there, but I think about what’s next. What do I want to have accomplished by then? My main goal (and dream) was surpassed long, long ago: to simple get back into the writing habit. In fact, it’s hard for me to fathom not writing every day now. That’s a beautiful thing. My life is richer for it, better, what I had hoped for, even dreamed about. It seemed so far off, so hard to attain. Now it’s just a part of me. Money, career, prestige are all secondary if you’re feeding your soul what it wants. Ha, I just laughed out loud … my soul is nourished, but the money, career, and prestige could use a little love, too. Let’s see how we’re doing at 800. Until then, keep writing.

  • Possible: write 1 day in a row
  • Impossible: write tomorrow (there’s only today)
  • Repossible: write 2 days in a row

Just rolling along the writing highway.

Bradley, I check out for the summer, and you just keep on writing! You never fail to be ridiculously inspirational to me – thanks for showing that it can be done, and done well!

Hey MP! Thanks for the note. Yes, sometimes this little challenge of writing every day seems to be the only consistent thing I have going on! 🙂

Better a little something than nothing at all! I’m trying to get back into it myself after a really hectic summer. We’ll see how it goes – we’ve tried to simplify our life a great deal, so I’m planning to have more free time available – we’ll see. Good luck and keep it up!
