Start writing here …

Start writing here …

I just opened StoryShop this morning and this is what happened.

If you’re a creator, you might get this. If you’re not (yet) a creator, pay attention.

My first blank page in the morning is StoryShop. It’s a blank page … but so much more. Sections, books, characters, links … write better stories faster.

On November 1, 2012, I wrote something like, “I suffer from the typical writer’s block. I see a blank page and I want to run.”

Today is Friday, June 15. It’s morning. No one is awake in my house. It’s early, but the sun is up because here in The Netherlands in June, the sun is up around 5 AM.

To give you the full picture of what I’m seeing, here’s a full-screen shot. Yes, it’s big.

You get the full effect with the black sides. That’s all I see. I see the words “Start writing here … ”

I love the three dots. They’re what get me going. Here’s what I’m thinking:

  1. What’s going to happen this morning?
  2. What character is going to make an appearance?
  3. Will it just be a one-time visit or will he or she become a regular?
  4. What worlds will we discover?
  5. Can I hold on long enough to the ride to see what happens next?

Some not-too-many years ago, this blank page was a source of fear, dread, and a battle with determination. It was like jogging or going to the gym or kale: you know you should do it and you know you’ll feel better after you do but you just don’t really want to get started.

After 2,000+ days in a row of Writing Every Day, no, it’s now Lucky to Write Every Day, this blank page is an invitation, a welcome mat to the unknown, it’s a dream, it’s a calling, it’s a call to create.

It’s fun, it’s light, it’s easy and it’s play.

What are you going to do with your blank page today?
