Little did I know.
I posted about recording an audiobook with my kids now almost 4 years ago: Chapter 9 of “The Secret of Kite Hill” recorded for audiobook release.
Here’s the whole, uncut, not-at-all-ready-for-prime-time production:
At the time, I figured it might get me thrown in the slammer for abusing my kids and forcing them into child labor. But we were (eventually) having fun with it, so I guessed it would all be OK.
Little did I know that just four years later, my now-14-year-old son wouldn’t dare be caught recording an audiobook and only now do I realize that I captured something I can cherish forever: a time capsule.
Spark: How to write a book with your kids–and why you should.
This is the premise of my upcoming book, “Spark: How to write a book with your kids–and why you should.”
I’ve been thinking of changing the subtitle to ” … and why you must.” but I suppose I shouldn’t be quite so forceful. But frankly, that’s how strongly I feel about it.
At the moment, I’m gathering up other stories from people who have also done creative projects with their kids. I don’t have too many requirements:
- You started.
- You finished.
- Someone learned something.
#2 is most important. Of course, it wouldn’t have gone very far without #1 and #3 is bound to happen if you get to #1. But then again, I stand by my ranking of #2.
